Dance, an art form has more power than just to captivate the mind, it also helps to heal it. Here's a programme in Dance Therapy. Rainbow Inc is conducting a 2 day training program on Dance Therapy. It involves the use of natural body movements to attain therapeutic goals. This therapy helps to increase the emotional-physical unity in individuals affecting positive changes in feelings, cognition, behavior and physical functioning.
This participatory program consists of three broad segments. Theory includes historical evolution, techniques, principles and objectives of dance therapy. The practical segment consists of body awareness practices, warm ups, relaxation routines, creative movement activities and games in combination with techniques from Indian and Western dance theatre. The third segment consists of evaluation and assessment in which participants learn to analyze movement patterns and behavior.
The program is open to special educators, school teachers, dancers, actors, visual artists, team leaders, social workers and therapists working with NGO's and other heterogeneous groups. The workshop will help participants use movement in sessions with children or adults they work with.
Tripura Kashyap, the facilitator of this programme, is a dance therapist and choreographer. She received her degree in classical dance from Kalakshetra, Chennai. She studied Dance Therapy and contemporary dance at Hancock Center, USA, and holds an MA degree in Psychology. She has received the Ashoka International Fellowship for her innovative work in dance/movement therapy.
