Archana Cultural Association is releasing a book called Cine Geetha Vaibhavam, written by S V Rama Rao, on 28th August, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. The book contains a comprehensive history of Telugu Cinema movie lyricists, music directors and playback singers who have brought out some memorable hits, starting from the 1930s to the year 1974.
S V Ramarao is one of the most knowledgeable persons about Telugu films, and has written hundreds of articles and film reviews for Yuvaraktam, Andhra Prabha, Andhra Bhoomi, India Today and Mohini (a special book on Telugu films).
Cinema has been his passion from his childhood, and has scripted, acted and conducted plays. He also acted in films such as Sriranga Neetulu and Kairaja Kai, besides having written scripts for movies like Kalavari Kutumbam, Triloka Sundari, Aata Bomma, Atta Mecchina Alludu, Sukravaram Mahalakshmi and Ee Prasnaku Baduledi.
In 1961, he became a film journalist. He also authored the biography of Gummadi and is working on many more. His work, Telugu Tera, bagged a Nandi award in 1999. He was awarded during numerous occasions, including with the Best Film Critic award by the A P Film Circle, the Best Film Journalist award by the A P Cine Goers Association and the Madras Telugu Academy award for his knowledge in Telugu films. He was also awarded the title of Cine Vignana Visarada by Dr. C Narayana Reddy.
The book Cine Geetha Vaibhavam will be released by the chief guest, senior actor and Dadasaheb Phalke awardee Dr. Akkineni Nageshwara Rao, and the evening will be presided over by Padmabhushan and Gnanpeeth awardee Dr. C Narayana Reddy. The first copy of the book will be handed over to S V Rama Rao's wife Manikyeshwari. Dr. Varaprasada Reddy, Chairman of Shantha Biotechnics Limited, and Tripuraneni Raja Rao, Managing Director of Vision Labs, are the other guests of the evening.
On this occasion, a musical nite of old melodies is being organised, in which many professional and semi-professional singers like D A Mitra, V A Lakshmi, Archana, Venkateshwara Rao, Akhila, Y R Sastry, Muralidhar Rao and C Kamala will be participating.
Archana Cultural Association was established on 23rd July, 1997, by an officer of United India Assurance, Venkateshwara Rao. Since then, he, along with his friends, all working professionals of the insurance and banking sector, have been working together towards organising good quality musical nites, featuring mostly old hits, every month. All the members of the association are amateur singers, and take part regularly in the association's events.
