The visitors from Vijayawada are performing twice in less than a week in town. If the concert is closer home this time, don't miss this. If it's farther, you stil shouldn't.

Sri Chandrasekharendra Sangeeta Educational Society is organising a Carnatic vocal duet by the Vishnubhatla Sisters of Vijayawada this Sunday, along with Durga Bhavani on the violin, B V S Prasad on the mridangam and P V Ramana Murthy on the ghatam.

The Vishnubhatla Sisters, Saraswati and Krishnaveni, hail from a family of musicians, and were introduced into the field of music by their mother Lalitha, a vocalist. After their initial training from their mother, they had their advanced training under the legendary musician N C Krishnamacharyulu. They are both A-grade artistes of the AIR, having featured regularly in many concerts of both AIR and Doordarshan. They have also learned Hindustani music from Pandit J V S Rao.

They have performed at various music sabhas in India, and also in some abroad. Saraswati is a PG in Music and is currently a staff artiste of the AIR. She is married to B V S Prasad, a talented mridangam vidhwan of the AIR. Krishnaveni is a science graduate, and well-versed with the veena in addition to being a vocal artiste. She is currently a lecturer in the Govt. College of Music and Dance, Vijayawada. She had conducted a workshop in music at the Pittsburg Venkateswara Temple, USA.

Sri Chandrasekharendra Sangeeta Educational Society was founded in the 2000, with the objective of imparting and spreading Carnatic vocal music to all ages of music lovers. It was established by S Chandrasekhar, a renowned vocalist, who has a diploma in Carnatic vocal and teaches about 50 students, both young and old. Every Sunday, he also teaches Annamacharya Keertanas from 3pm to 5pm, free of cost to anyone eager to learn.

The society also organises various music concerts of local upcoming and established artistes, and renowned classical musicians from Chennai. On the occasion of its anniversary in January 2007, a festival of Satguru Sri Thyagaraja Swamy is being organised from 24th to 28th January, with highly talented musicians from AP and Chennai performing.

For further details, please contact the society at 2780-5161, 93910-11704 or 98661-87955.
