Nada Tarangam Trust is presenting its 2nd Annual Gokulastami Music Festival from 15th to 21st August, at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan auditorium, King Koti. The 7-day music festival will feature renowned Carnatic musicians like Neyveli R Santhanagopalan, U P Raju and Nagamani, Shreyas Narayanan, T V Shankara Narayanan, D Srinivas, Sanjay Subrahmanyan and Unnikrishnan performing.
Tonite, the inaugural day, renowned vocalist Neyveli R Santhanagopalan will perform, along with U V Ravi on the violin and Neyveli Narayanan on the mridangam. Neyveli R Santhanagopalan is a versatile musician who learnt music under the tutelage of illustrious gurus like Chembai C S Ananthamani Bhagavathar and Srirangam Ranganathan. He had an intensive gurukulam under the maestro Madurai T N Seshagopalan, which helped him blossom into the artiste that he is today.
A musician steeped in tradition and yet highly creative and innovative, Santhanagopalan is known for music that is deeply evolved around bhakthi and bhava, and yet attractive and entertaining. A notable feature of his music is Visranthi, the ability to present his music in a perfect kalapramana, with a very relaxed attitude, making for a memorable listening experience.
He is a regular in all the major music halls in the Carnatic music circuit. He is a recognized Grade A artiste on All-India Radio and Doordarshan. He has frequently toured India and outside, presenting concerts to big applause. He was conferred upon the titles Isai Peroli by Kartik Fine Arts, Vanikala Sudhakara by Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha, Nada Bhooshanam by Shanmukhananda Sabha, Delhi, and Vidhwan and Asthana Vidwan by Sringeri Mutt.
Nada Tarangam Trust was started on 16th August, 2005, by a renowned mridangam, ghatam and jaltarang artiste Nemani Somayajulu. Somayajulu is a senior artiste who has done his diploma in mridangam from the M R College For Music, Vizianagaram, in 1972, and has since accompanied many music vidhwans like Dr. Managalampally Bala Muralikrishna, Dr. Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana, Dr. Nedunuri Krishna Murthy, Dr. Chitti Babu, Dr. L Subrahmanyam, Dwaram Durgaprasad, the Malladi Brothers and Veena D Srinivas, to various parts of India. He has also presented a fusion concert of Jaltarang with mridangist Umalaypuram Sivaraman in the USA. He is probably the only male jaltarang player of Carnatic music in the world.
