He does not sing for money, since music, he believes, cannot be sold. The last we saw someone like that was in some K Viswanath film. Catch this man tonite - he's among the last of a venerable species.
Sangeeta Ksheerasagaram, in association with Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha, and in memory of Late Uppalapati Ankaiah, is organising a Carnatic vocal recital by Gaanadheera Karlapalem Chandramouli on 16th December at Kala Subbarao Kala Vedika, the mini-hall of Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha in Chikkadpally. He will be supported by Komanduri Seshadri on the violin and S Aravind on the mridangam.
Chandramouli is a disciple of Vinjamuri Varadaraja Iyengar of Chennai. He belongs to the senior genre of classical vocalists who have made their mark in imparting traditional music lessons to the next generation of music youngsters. He has been working at the Government Music College in Kurnool for over 30 years now.
He believes in the sampradaya kacheri system and music as a non-commercial commodity. That's why, as far as time permits, he goes anywhere and performs for a meager dakshina, or even for free. Because of his devotion towards teaching, he has participated in about 100 concerts now, all over the country.
Sangeeta Ksheerasagaram has been organizing classical music shows in memory of Late Uppalapati Ankaiah. As a tribute to the legend, it promotes upcoming and established artists by inviting them to perform in these concerts.
