She's young, she's charismatic and she's tough-to-get. The fourth part would have stood out as the odd man in that sentence - she's a Carnatic vocalist!
Kalasagaram, a cultural association based in Secunderabad, is organizing its monthly program of Carnatic vocal on 23rd, 24th and 25th February at Keyes Girls High School in Secunderabad. Today, the first day, Vidya Kalyana Raman will be performing a Carnatic vocal recital, accompanied by K Gokul on the violin and Srivanchyam Sriram on the mridangam.
Vidya Kalyanaraman is a disciple of Padma Shandilyan and Suguna Varadachary. She is a recipient of the CCRT Scholarship and is a B-grade artiste of the AIR, having won the AIR competitions in the year 2005. She was awarded the Yuva Bharathi by the Bharat Kalachar, Chennai. She has anchored the highly successful music program Ragam Sangeetam, for Raj TV channel. She is the current President of the Youth Association for Classical Music (YACM). An upcoming artiste, she is highly sought-after and is a busy performer on the music circuit.
Kalasagaram is a South-Indian cultural association situated in East Nehru Nagar of East Marredpally, and has been organising Carnatic music concerts for more than 35 years. The concerts are always held in the Keyes High School campus in the open-air theater. The singers are generally from outside Hyderabad, usually amateurs and upcoming artistes, and quite competent. Kalasagaram also occasionally stages South-Indian classical dances and Tamil plays.
