Kalasagaram's 43rd Annual Festival Of Music, Dance & Drama is on at Keyes High School, from 27th November to 5th December. As part of the festival, Chennai-based popular vocalist Nityasree Mahadevan will be performing on 29th November.
She needs little by way of introduction, and her umpteen titles and her illustrious lineage are only the beginning. Nityasree is the granddaughter of the legendary late D K Pattammal and mridangam maestro Palghat Mani Iyer. She initially trained under her mother Lalitha Sivakumar, and later on with D K Pattammal. She has been performing since 1987, and is currently an A-grade artiste of AIR. She has received many awards, notably Yuva Kala Bharathi, Sangeetha Sikhamani, Ugadi Puraskar, Nadabhushanam and Kalaimamani.
Nityasree has performed at all major sabhas in India, and also toured USA, UK, France, Germany, Australia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Geneva, Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi for concerts. She has rendered her voice to various movies and TV serials, apart from more than 100 CDs and cassettes.
Kalasagaram is a south-Indian cultural association, and has been organising Carnatic music concerts for more than 40 years now. The concerts are usually held in the Keyes High School campus, in the open-air theater. The singers are generally from outside Hyderabad, usually amateurs and upcoming artistes. Kalasagaram also occasionally stages south-Indian classical dances and Tamil plays.
The entry to this cultural festival is by daily donor passes of Rs. 100, Rs. 50 & Rs. 25 per head. Season passes are also available for Rs. 400, Rs. 300 & Rs. 200 per head.
