How'd you like Lord Rama as Chief Guest for a function in His honor? Even Geeta Ganeshan won't have that - not today, anyway - but the Governor is one hell of a poor second.
Thyagaraja, a great saint and an ardent devotee of Rama, composed numerous kritis and dedicated them to the Lord. Each of his kritis, embellished with meaningful works and melodious swaras, has captivated scores of people.
Every year, homage is paid to the saint through the annual Thyagaraja aradhana held at his birthplace Thiruvaiyuru in Tamil Nadu and at other parts of the country, in January and February.
This year, the 155th Aaradhana festival of Sadguru Sri Thyagaraja Swami is being celebrated at the Sri Thyagaraja Gana Sabha for a 9-day period. The program schedule on the second day is as follows:
5.30pm - 6.30pm
Nadaswaram by C K Suryanarayana and party
7.30pm - 8.15pm
Vocal by 'Sangeeta Vidwan' Puranam Purushottama Shastry
8.15pm - 9.00pm
Bharatnatyam by 'Natya Kalaimani' Geeta Ganeshan
Dr C Rangarajan, Governor of Andhra Pradesh, will be chief guest on the occasion. Please contact 763-8241 for further details.
