Alliance Francaise of Hyderabad, in association with the Hyderabad Film Club, is screening a French movie, Betrayal, at the Sarathi Studios in Ameerpet, on 27th May. This movie is directed by Philippe Faucon, and has Vincent Martine, Cyril Troley and Ahmed Berrhama in the leading roles.
Betrayal focuses on a group of "harkis", Algerian soldiers working with the French to defeat the efforts of the FLN freedom fighters. Led by a French lieutenant (Martinez) who is fatigued by the long, seemingly irresolvable conflict with the Algerian people, the Arab soldiers face their own moral crises as they comply with aggressive acts of interrogation and torture.
The scope of the struggle is made more tangible by Faucon, who balances scenes of the lieutenant with the conflicted Arab soldiers.
