Sri Thyagaraja Gana Sabha is presenting Sangatanatmaka Tallapakavari Sankeertanalu, a collection of Annamayya keertanas by Tirumala Devi, on 5th July, at its mini-hall, Kala Subbarao Kala Vedika. Devi will be performing a lecdem on keertanas written by Pedda Tirumalacharya and Chinna Tirumalacharya (both grandsons of the legendary saint) on Annamacharya, and some written by Annamacharya himself. These songs are all based on some unique instance, and she will be explaining each one of these with its recital.
Some of the items that she will be performing include Diname Dwadasi Nedu by Pedda Tirumalacharya, Karamu Jeedipulsu Kaligina Mamidi by Chinna Tirumalcharya, Emuko Chiguru by Sri Annamacharya, Aakati Velala Alapaina by Chinna Tirumalacharya and Tallapaka Annamacharya Dairamavu Neevu Maku by Chinna Tirumalacharya.
Tirumala Devi worked as a scientist at the National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA) for 16 years. In spite of her work obligations, she gained a very good knowledge in music, be it Carnatic vocal, light music or Hindustani classical. She learnt Carnatic music from Padma Vibhushan Dr M Balamurali Krishna and D V Mohan Krishna, light music from M Chittaranjan, and Hindustani classical from Ram Subbamma. She has a P G Diploma in Light Music from the Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, and is currently pursuing her 2nd year in music studies from Madras University.
She has given over 200 concerts at many temples including those in Mantralayam, Srisailam, Nandigama, TTD Hyderabad, Vargal, Chilkur, Keesara, Vemulavada, Sanghinagar, Indalvai, Satyasala and Yadagirigutta. She is a recipient of the National Merit Scholarship for P G Academic Excellence, and has won several prizes in light music.
She teaches classical music, light music and devotional music, and also undertakes home tuitions on music including on theory on evolution of music, bhakti stotras and yoga. In addition, she conducts workshops on music with special preference on some rare keertanas of Annamacharya.
