Apart from sponsors and copy-starved journos, it's not very easy to find folks gung-ho about Women's Day. So things like this that have neither are a relief.
The Hyderabad Maanagar Tamil Sangam is celebrating the Women's Day by conducting competitions in Rangoli and vegetable carving for Tamil-speaking and other womenfolk (the latter will have to pay a participation fee of Rs. 25, though).
Those interested in other areas like dance and music can also showcase their talent in this program. The same evening Ananda Shankar Jayant and the Shankarananda Kalakshetra ensemble will present 'What About Me' - a dance-theater presentation - to entertain the audience.
The various disciplines in which competitions have taken place for girls on the 3rd of this month are essay writing, Tamil poems, Tamil speeches, light music and Carnatic music. The winners of these competitions will be rewarded this evening.
Film actress and MP Jaya Prada will be the chief guest for the evening. Please contact Royappan at 774-0397 / 774-7768 or Rangamayi at 353-4947 for further details.
