P C Sorcar is one of the few people weaving magic that SICA did not bring to town. Here is this month's episode.
Famously known as the Saralaya Sisters, both Kavitha and Triveni hail from a great sangeeta parampara that enjoyed the patronage of the Tanjore Rajahs. Late S P Natarajan, a flautist of high repute, and S Vijayalakshmi Venkatesan initially groomed them.
Both passed their senior grade Carnatic music (vocal) with distinction. Kavitha has a Masters degree, and has submitted a dissertation/thesis titled "Communication Potential Of Classical Carnatic Music", while Triveni has a Master's Degree in classical music. They have both received numerous awards and titles, the notable among them being "Gaana Ratna" by the Arts Council of Sri Lanka and the Ambujam Krishnan Award by the Music Academy (Chennai).
This evening the duo will perform a vocal duet accompanied by B S Narayanan on the violin, D S R Murthy on the mridangam and G Satya Sai on the morsing.
