In the days before 80% of your newspaper reading time is spent in the sleaze pages with photographs of semi-naked women, your GK is generally high, and so quizzes for kids generally appear easier to crack - that was the only time you were paying any attention to other things. Here's a quiz competition for all the real adults.
The Hindu last year celebrated 10 years of its exclusive supplement "Young World", and organized an inter-school quiz competition in four centers - Hyderabad, Kochi, New Delhi and Chennai - with an all-India finale at Chennai on Children's Day. These quizzes were well received, and Chennai saw a massive turnout of over 5,500 students. There was a popular demand to make the quiz an annual event, and yielding to this, The Hindu Young World Quiz is back.
The quiz is open to the students of classes 8 to 12. Up to 6 teams from each school can take part in the quiz. The quiz is being held in nine centers this year - New Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram, Vishakapatnam, Coimbatore, Kochi, Madurai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai. The all India finale will be held at Chennai on November 24, 2001.
The title sponsor for the quiz is Eveready, and the other national sponsors include Nutrine, Coca Cola, TI Cycles, Dishnet DSL and Fourth R. Cash prizes and gift hampers will be given to both winners and lucky members of the audience.
The event managers for the quiz on 3rd November are Letsquiz.com. The entry forms are available at the regional offices of 'The Hindu'.
Apart from the intellectual stimulation offered by the quizzes, there are many prizes on offer as well. Prizes come both in cash and in kind. The cash prizes are as under:
