As part of the Royal Hyderabad 2008 celebrations by Royal Challenge Whisky, the grand finale has the super-energetic Shankar Mahadevan performing on 21st November, at the RRC Grounds. Opening the night are the Royal Hyderabad Band and Aasma.
The Royal Hyderabad Band is a 4-piece band selected during the Royal Jammin' competitions held during this month, in which the band was the winner among 75 bands that participated. Aasma is also a 4-piece Indi-pop band, consisting of Jimmy Felix, Neeti Mohan, Sangeet Haldipur, and Vasudha Sharma. Their songs Love In Da Club, Punjaban Soni Lagdi, Dil Kahen Jee Le, Kabhi Ha Ha Kabhi Na Na and Jahan Hai Aasma are hits.
Shankar Mahadevan will be performing some of his big hits, including Kajra Re (Bunty Aur Babli), Dil Chahta Hai & Koi Kahe Kahta Rahe (Dil Chahta Hai), Urvasi Urvasi (Humse Hai Muqabla), Hindustan (Border), Oh La La (Sapnay) and, not to forget, Koi Jo Mila (Breathless). There will be a few Telugu songs in between too, by noted playback singers D Srinivas and Gopika Poornima.
Shankar Mahadevan was trained in classical music, and started playing the veena at the age of 5. He gave his first solo performance when he was 11 years old. T R Balamani was his initial teacher. He was trained by Tara Devi in North-Indian semi-classical music, and by Srinivas Khale, the legendary Marathi composer.
Mahadevan is a qualified software engineer, and has worked at the Oracle Corporation for some time. He is part of a Swedish band called Mynta, and travels to perform twice a year. Along with Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa, he formed a music trio by the name of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, scoring tracks for movies. He is also a member of the Pure Silk band with Louis Banks, Sivamani and Karl Peters, which recently rocked the Taj Krishna.
