In the course of a regular "working" day, three Tel Aviv "low-lives" try to put some order into their meaningless existence. Malka, a hooker, and Levi and Moshe, two petty criminals and even less accomplished pimps, search for better days, but find only that they are drawn into a string of adventurous episodes that are dreams of Malka's love. And Levi hopes for success in any form.
Through the funny-sad escapades and sweet-and-sour moments, Dayan (director of this movie) creates a warm and unalienating world for his characters to travel in. But what the three will never understand is that dreaming will never be enough - not when all you have going for you is ineptitude.
Assi Dayan began his career as an actor, playing principal roles in such films as John Huston's A Walk With Love And Death (1969) and Jules Dassin's Promise At Dawn (1970). He went on to establish himself as a columnist, novelist and screenwriter. His previous directorial offering, the harsh, apocalyptic, Life According To Agfa, won the Best Film award at the Israeli Academy of Film Awards and received an honorary mention at the Jerusalem Film Festival.
