Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha is presenting a Carnatic vocal concert of some rare Ramadas keertanas by Tirumala Devi, on 2nd August, at its mini hall Kala Subbarao Kala Vedika. Tirumala Devi will be supported by Venugopal on the violin and Vidyasagar on the tabla.
Tirumala Devi will start the recital with Kaliyugu Vaikuntam in Ananda Bhairavi raagam, followed by Yedanunnado Bhadradri in Natakuranji raagam, Pavana Rama Nama Sudarasa in Kapi, Nara Harini Nammaka in Janjhoti, Buchivani Pilavabodura in Pantuvarali, Eevela Nannu Brovara in Kamas, Ento Mahanubhavulu in Varali, among others.
The chief guest for the evening is Voleti Parvateesham, Program Director of Doordarshan.
Tirumala Devi worked as a scientist at the National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA) for a period of 16 years. In spite of her work obligations, she gained a very good knowledge in music, be it Carnatic vocal, light music or Hindustani classical. She learnt Carnatic music from Padma Vibhushan Dr M Balamurali Krishna and D V Mohan Krishna, light music from M Chittaranjan, and Hindustani classical from Ram Subbamma. She has a P G Diploma in Light Music from the Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, and is currently pursuing her 2nd year in music studies from Madras University.
She has given over 200 concerts at many temples including those in Mantralayam, Srisailam, Nandigama, TTD Hyderabad, Vargal, Chilukur, Keesara, Vemulavada, Sanghinagar, Indalvai, Satyasala and Yadagirigutta. She is a recipient of the National Merit Scholarship at P G Academic Excellence, and has won several prizes in light music.
