There's more than one film festival on in town. For the connoisseurs, it takes care of some the smarting from The Namesake being kept off the theaters last week. Here's one of the selection from acclaimed international cinema.
On the occasion of World Theatre Day, the Sarojini Naidu School Of Performing Arts And Fine Arts, in association with Moving Images and Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad, is organising a 3-day film festival on theater, from 27th to 29th March. Today, the inaugural day, a German film called My Name Is Bertolt Brecht – Exile In USA, directed by Norbert Bunge, will be screened at the Prasad Labs Preview Theatre on Road No. 3, Banjara Hills.
After his escape from Nazi Germany, Brecht tried to establish himself in the Hollywood film business. However, the years of exile from 1941 to 1947 were marked by a sense of failure and deep resignation. Brecht, like many other film directors and authors of the group Hollywood 10, was, in October 1947, interrogated by an investigation commission for possible anti-American activities. Following this he left the United States returning to Germany via Switzerland.
The film is based on Brecht's diary and talks with his friends of those times as well as with close fellow workers. It also provides an insight into the situation in the United States during the '30s and the '40s.
The film starts at 3:30pm and the entry is free for all. For further details, please contact Goethe-Zentrum at 6652-6443/2324-1791.
