If abstract art is your thing, life in art galleries is going to be painless. Here's the latest from a JNTU star.
Chitramayee - State Gallery of Fine Arts is organising an exhibition of paintings by B Kumaraswamy, from 24th to 31st March. A contemporary art exhibition titled My Neighbours, the series contains about 24 paintings done with acrylic colors on canvas.
At first glance, you'd find most of the paintings identical with a yellow face, but on closer look you notice that each time the background and other objects keep changing. For example, there is one painting with a blue background, two yellow faces and a green leaf, and another painting with a green background, two yellow faces and three fish in different colors. In the same way, there are three different coloured goats against a light green background, a maple leaf against a red background, and a lotus against a maroon background.
Kumaraswamy explains these changes on the canvas, saying that the faces are human beings, the animals and flowers our neighbours that we encounter in our daily lives, and the background hues are the different weather conditions, atmosphere, pollution, or day & night. It shows that we live among the ecology, the flora and the fauna. Another noticeable point in every painting is the never-ending inscription of 010101... which is the developing technology.
Hailing from Wardhannapet of Warangal district, Kumaraswamy has always loved to paint and draw. Even during his childhood, his talent won him many prizes at school and later at the college level. Driven by his passion for pursuing art, he soon graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from the JNTU College of Fine Arts, Hyderabad, in 1996.
Soon after, he was invited to participate in many important art meets at the state and national level such as the Group Show Of Graphic Arts in 1995 at JNTU, the All-India Art Exhibition during 1998, 2001 & 2003, the 5th A P State-Level Art Exhibition in 2001, and the 62nd A P State-Level Art Exhibition. He has many prestigious awards to his credit, the outstanding one among them being the Highly Commendable Certificate Award from the All-India Fine Art & Craft Society in 2004.
