Once upon a time every Cacophonix did not have his day, and the French decided to do something about it. Like they would say, voila!
With an initiative from the French Ministry of Culture, since 1982 on June 21st (commemorated as the day of the summer solstice) every year, amateur and professional musicians from all across French invade the streets and courtyards, squares and gardens, stations and museums, for the pleasure of playing, listening and sharing music.
Not satisfied to simply bring music out into the open, this 'festival of music' (Fete De La Musique) has become a genuine social phenomenon. 1985 saw the Fete De La Musique spread out of France and it is now celebrated in more than 110 countries.
The Fete De La Musique encourages music of all kinds i.e. 'Musiques Sans Frontieres' - a platform where every kind of music is welcome. Musicians of every level and every style perform in thousands of live concerts on this day.
The festival follows a policy of free admission and a gift of music to the public. And true to tradition, this year the Alliance Francaise presents an assortment of music, musicians and instruments. The performances by G Jaywant Naidu, the renowned Hawaiian guitar player, Dr Naveen (in-house physician), musician and French professor, and the young band 33 RPM are all set to entertain the audience. Alliance Francaise de Hyderabad also welcomes all the amateurs to sing/perform here today.
