Zakir Hussain & Group Live

Vista Entertainments is presenting a mega fusion music concert by Zakir Hussain on the tabla, Taufiq Qureshi on the percussions, Niladri Kumar on the sitar and Sabir Khan on the sarangi. The concert is on 16th January, at the HICC complex of Novotel Hyderabad.



Zakir Hussain, son and disciple of renowned tabla maestro late Ustad Alla Rakha, showed unusual talent on tabla drums as a child. He began his musical career at the age of 7, and was touring by the age of 12. At 19, he accompanied the legendary sitar player Pandit Ravi Shankar to the United States, to perform at Fillmore East. He has received many awards for his contributions to the world of music. In 1988, he became the youngest percussionist to be awarded the title Padmasri by the Indian government. In 1990, he was awarded the Indo-American Award, and the President of India honored him with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1991. In 1992, one of the projects 'Planet Drum' that Zakir Hussian did with Mickey Hart, received a Grammy for the Best World Music Album.



Niladri is the son and disciple of sitar maestro Pandit Kartick Kumar. He has incorporated imaginative experiments in world music styles, and has performed all over the world, in prestigious music concerts and festivals. He has been awarded the titles of Sur Ratna, Surmani, Jadubhatta Puraskar and the Sanskriti Award.



Taufiq is the youngest son of the legendary Ustad Alla Rakha, and brother of Ustad Zakir Hussain. He learnt secrets of tabla from his father, but from a very young age he was drawn to the wider world of percussions. He got adequate experience with Zakir's fusion experiments through bands like Shanti, Diga, Shakti and Rhythm Experience.



Sabir Khan was born in Jodhpur and belongs to the Sikar Gharana of music, which has contributed several stalwarts to Indian classical music. He is the 9th generation musician to take up the sarangi. His great-grandfather, Ustad Azim Khan, was a court musician at Sikar (Rajasthan). He learnt music under his grandfather, Ustad Gulab Khan, and later on, had his training from his father - sarangi player and vocalist Ustad Sultan Khan - and from his late uncle, Ustad Nasir Khan. He has performed with several renowned artistes, including Ustad Zakir Hussain, Pt. Kumar Bose, Pt. Anindo Chatterjee, ghazal maestro Ustad Gulam Ali, Talat Aziz, Asha Bhonsle and Lata Mangeshkar.
