The Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Government of Andhra Pradesh, in collaboration with Natya Tarangini Raja and Radha Reddy Institute of Kuchipudi Dance, is presenting Parampara Series 2011: Shreyasi - International Dance Festival from 16th to 20th February at the Shilpakala Vedika auditorium, Madhapur and the Global Peace Auditorium, Gachibowli.
The 5-day festival features 5 international dance groups from countries that include the USA, Spain, Turkey, Russia and India.
As part of the festival, the penultimate day will feature a whirling dervish dance by the Istanbul Dance Ensemble from Turkey at the Global Peace Auditorium, Brahma Kumaris Shanti Sarovar, Gachibowli.
The mystic dance of whirling dervishes, that transfixes audiences, is known as Sema. The dervishes follow the teachings of Mevlana C Rumi, a XIII century mystic, poet and philospher. Sema is a prayer which reflects Turkish and Ottoman beliefs, cultures and history. It is said to be a tool for human beings to comprehend divine reality.
Sema highlights a mystical journey of spiritual ascent through the mind and through love. Departing from his ego, the dancer turns toward truth and spiritual perfection. He returns from his journey as a fulfilled, mature and loving person without prejudice, discrimination of belief, race, class or nationality.
Entry is free. Please contact K Upasana of Natya Tarangini at 99854-50013 / 2335-8901 for further details.
