Avasarala Kanya Kumari (AKK) will perform a solo violin concert this evening as part of SICA's 5-day golden jubilee festival music concerts. Kanya Kumari is a renowned female Carnatic music violinist from South India, and lives in Chennai. She plays alongside Kadiri Gopalnath in concerts these days.
Kanya Kumari is a native of Vijayanagaram, Andhra Pradesh, and has been living in Chennai for more than 25 years. She learnt initially from I Vijayeswara Rao of the Dwaram school, and later from maestro M Chandrasekaran under a Govt. of India scholarship. She also had a long association with Dr. M L Vasantha Kumari as her stock accompanist (1972-91).
