It's Saraswati Puja today, and here's someone right from her womb performing. Sez several heads of state too.
Sri Sringeri Shankar Math, as part of Sri Sharada Sarannavaratra Mahotsavams, is organising a veena recital by Veena Vadya Vidwanmani D Srinivas, on 29th September.
29th September being Saraswati Puja, D Srinivas will be rendering some Saraswati keerthanas. The program starts with the Mysore Vasudevachar Kriti Mamavathu Sri Saraswati in Hindola Raagam, followed by Saraswati Namastubhyam in Saraswati Raagam, Muthaiah Bhagavathar's Himagiri Tanaye in Suddha Dhanyasi Raagam, Sri Adi Shankaracharya's Mahishasura Mardini Stotram Aigiri Nandini in Punnaga Varali Raagam, and finally Bhagyadha Lakshmi Baramma in Madhyamavati Raagam.
The orchestra for the evening is Mangalampalli Surya Deepti on the violin, Nemani Somayajulu on the mridangam and Ghantasala Sai on the morsing.
D Srinivas was a child prodigy in the veena, born in a family of musicians at Hyderabad. His mother D L Tulasi was a popular veena artiste, and having identified Srinivas's taste and talent in the veena, initiated and encouraged him to pursue and master the art.
Srinivas gave his maiden concert at the age of 9 for All India Radio, Hyderabad. He is a disciple of Vidwan N S Srinivasan, who was his guru and master architect, and introduced him as an artiste with laudable individual traits. Srinivas was a scholarship holder from the Andhra Pradesh Sangeeta Nataka Academy for 6 years. He has participated in almost all the prestigious Gana Sabhas, and has been the recipient of many awards for his performances.
Srinivas holds the record of being the youngest A-grade veena artiste to play at the National Program of Music, relayed live all over the nation from the studios of All India Radio, Hyderabad.
Srinivas has also presented many a classical symphony concert using Indian classical instruments. He performed before the President of India, the Prime Minister of India, the Singapore Prime Minister, the Indo-German Business summit, Japaneese business delegates, the Mauritius Prime Minister, the World Bank President, Indo-Asean Business summit delegates, to name a few. He has the titles of Veena Vidwanmani, Veena Praveena and Raga Sudhakara to his credit.
