Hindu mythology would have you believe that gods are just like humans, with all the Kyunki Saas Bhi... problems. But it certainly offers the dancers a wide range, like tonite.
Shilparamam, as part of Navaratri Festivities, is organising an evening of Kuchipudi dance by students of Sri Sharada Nrithya Niketan, on 29th September.
The students and disciples of Sailaja Prasad will start with a couple of solo performances lasting about half an hour, and will follow that up with a one-hour Kuchipudi dance ballet, Tribhuvana Shakthi.
Tribhuvana Shakthi is an argument started by Sage Narada, between the goddesses Lakshmi, Saraswati and Parvathi, about who's the greatest and most powerful amongst themselves. The argument goes on for long, and at one stage they ask Narada to resolve it.
Narada, fearing the wrath of their husbands, the gods Vishnu, Brahma and Shiva, hesitates a bit, but with pressure from the trio, promises a settlement. He assures the devis that he will be back in a moment, and moves around the world asking the devas and gods for the solution.
Seeing the desperation of Narada, Lord Ganesh, also referred to as god of wisdom, comes up with a wise solution... and the argument comes to an end.
The ballet is being presented by Tejasvi as Goddess Parvati, Varsha as Goddess Saraswati, Kalaroopa as Goddess Lakshmi, Yashasvi as Sage Narada, Sai Shres as Lord Ganesh, and Anita and Keethana as dancers of Lord Ganesh's court.
