Shilparamam is presenting a recital of the veena by Achala Shankarnath & her daughter Vineetha as part of its weekend program of music, on 1st September. Starting with a Varnam in Natakuranji ragam, Shankarnath will proceed to Srimannarayana in Gowla ragam, followed by Manavi Aalakimpa Radha in Nalinakanti ragam, Mamothu Sri Saraswati in Hindola ragam, Anandamruthakarshini in Amrutha Varshini ragam and a Tillana in Karna Ranjani ragam. Renuka Prasad on the mridangam and Sridharacharya on the ghatam will provide the music support.
Achala Shankarnath is a graded artiste of the All-India Radio, and has an M A in Veena from the Potti Sriramulu Telugu University. She trained initially under Pappu Someshwar Rao, and later on under various gurus of music including Kalaimani Dr. Suma Sudhendra, Bandi Shyamala and (currently) D Srinivas. She performs various concerts in Hyderabad. She established the Mahati Trust in 2004, which teaches classical Carnatic music for poor and needy students.
