Today is the National Day For The Mentally Retarded. It also happens to be the 7th anniversary of the Aathmeeya Manasika Vikasa Kandram, so as you may expect, there is a lot of activity. The day starts with an exhibition in the morning of articles created by students of 10 of the city's institutes for the mentally retarded, including the Thakur Hariprasad Institute for the Mentally Retarded, outside the venue. The evening will have programs by the kids like puppet shows, dances and mimicry. The prize distribution for the winners of the inter-district sports camp conducted on the 25th of last month (this drew over 400 participants) will also happen here. Then there is a light music program by Vinnamkota Revathi, a Limca record holder.
The event will have lots of luminaries, like Kota Srinivasa Rao, Nutan Prasad and Naresh. The chief guest is N Y Hanumantha Rao, the Chief Justice of the High Court, and the other dignitaries include Gayatri Ramachandran, the Principal Secretary for Women, Child and Disable Welfare, and R Sundaravadan, the Commissioner for Disabled Welfare.
