Kalarajyam, an organization that has been involved in various cultural programs, turns 28 this year, and is having a three-day festival on this occasion.
7th December, Thu
This is the day for music. A one-hour Carnatic music recital by Prema Ramurthy, the well-known vocalist, kicks off the festival. Prema Ramamurthy is an 'A' grade artist with the AIR. Her training started early under the guidance of her parents and her grandfather, Sri Srinivasa Iyer, a renowned flutist. She then trained under Dr M Balamurali Krishna and T V Gopalakrishnan.
Ramamurthy has many awards to her credit and has also released 3 albums. She has composed music for various dancers, too. Titles like 'Sangeetha Saraswati', 'Sangeetha Ratna' and 'Amrithavarshini' have been conferred on her. She will be felicitated on this day. The chief guest will be S Aruna, the Minister for Health.
8th December, Fri
The second day is for dance. And guess who's performing? It's a one-hour Kuchipudi dance recital by Alekhya.
Alekhya hardly needs an introduction in art circles. This well-known dancer has traveled all over the world and has performed in different countries. Her graceful movements and fluid facial expressions speak volumes, giving an enchanting touch to the dance form. She is also the Head of the Department of Dance at the Telugu University. She will also be felicitated today.

'Sri Krishna Rayabharam', the great classic play written by Tirupati Venkata Kavulu, is the grand finale. Comprising three acts, this is a famous part of the Mahabharatha, where Krishna makes one last attempt to stop the impending war between the Pandavas and the Kauravas. This mythological play is more than 100 years old, and is still one of the most popular plays ever. Telugu is the only language in India that has plays written in the form of poetry.
The play is directed by M Bhaskara Rao, and the music, which is classical in style, is by Vidwan Y Ramachandra Rao. Vemoori Shyamasundara Rao a famous stage, radio and TV artiste, who also plays the role of Krishna, will be felicitated on the occasion. By the way, this is not the first time that he's playing this role. His 30-year career on stage has been filled with awards and felicitations. He has been adjudged the best singer in various competitions. He is also the registrar of the Ambedkar University. The chief guest will be Dr Akkineni Nageshwara Rao. Dr C Narayana Reddy and K V Ramana will also be present.
