When was the last time that you were the best in the whole friggin' nation at what you did? Professional sporting is all about will, and the most tenacious people in the country are congregating in town for what will be the greatest battle of self-beliefs that this nation has to offer.
The National Games are the nation's most prestigious games, and thousands of sportsmen from various parts of the country visit the Games Village and compete in various categories. And the 32nd National Games are being held right here, in town.
The competitions will be held in 26 disciplines among the best teams in the country, and about 6,500 competitors are expected to participate in this mega event. And the State Government has created state-of-the-art infrastructure to host the games, with an investment of Rs 330 crore.
About 50,000 spectators will turn up daily to witness the Games. The approach roads to stadiums have been relaid, and APSRTC will introduce 80 new model buses in the twin cities for enthusiasts to commute between the city and the Games Village.
The disciplines in which the competitions to be held are water polo, aquatics, basketball, athletics, badminton, sepal takraw, fencing, shooting, handball, volleyball, table tennis, football, tennis, boxing, kho-kho, kabaddi, equestrian, cycling, gymnastics, wrestling, archery, hockey (women), hockey (men), rowing, canoeing & kayaking, yachting, netball, Judo, Taekwondo, triathlon, beach volleyball, and weightlifting.
The games will be held at various stadiums in and around the city like Aquatics Complex (Gachibowli), Main Athletic Stadium (Gachibowli), Indoor Stadium (Gachibowli), Central University Indoor Hall (Hyderabad), Indoor Stadium DGCR (Begumpet), Fateh Maidan (LB Stadium), Tennis Complex-Indoor Stadium (LB Stadium), Shiv Kumar Lal Football Stadium, NTR Stadium, Sports School (Hakimpet), Osmania University, Velodrome (Saroornagar), Hockey Stadium (Begumpet), and Hussain Sagar Lake. Also, some games that have planned to be held outside the Hyderabad city are at Rushi Konda Beach (Visakhapatnam), MCV (Visakhapatnam), Port Indoor Stadium (Visakhapatnam), Rama Krishna Beach (Visakhapatnam), and Port Auditorium (Visakhapatnam).
