On the occasion of the 7th Krishnakriti Annual Festival Of Art & Culture from 7th to 11th January, Kalakriti Art Gallery is presenting a talk and slide show on Ram Kinkar Baij's sculpture by K S Radhakrishnan on 8th January at the Kalakriti Art Gallery.
Born in 1956 in Kottayam, K S Radhakrishnan studied sculpture under legendary sculptor Late Ram Kinkar Baij at Kalabhavana, Shantiniketan. After completing his BFA and MFA at Shantiniketan, he migrated to Delhi, which later became his home and studio. Radhakrishnan has been exhibiting his works all over the world for the last 3 decades.
Ram Kinkar Baij (May 1906 - August 1980) is known as the Pioneer Of Modern Indian Sculpture. He was one of the first Indian artists to understand the language of modern Western art and use it in his sculptures. He is regarded as the Father Of Modernism in art in India.
The Krishnakriti Art And Culture Festival is organised every year by the Lahoti Foundation, which was established by artist Prashant Lahoti in memory of his father Krishnachandra B Lahoti. On this occasion, art camps are organised by eminent artists, and the works are auctioned off at the end of the festival. The proceeds from the sales go to The Krishnachandra B Lahoti Scholarship, which sponsors holistic education for deserving and needy students.
