Theater expert Vaishali Bisht is presenting Snack And Dinner, two theatrical pieces, on 15th January, at the Hyder Mahal, ITC Kakatiya Hotel. Both the plays, Face Off and Write, Rite And Right, are written and directed by Bisht.

Face Off
This play is sub-divided into five different themes that are presented one after the other, as below:

Waiting for Mr. Right - A sketch set in the luxury and languor of a zenana boudoir, this piece is an ironic exploration of a woman's expectations and standards. Often in our nostalgia for the past and our anticipation of the future, we barely notice that we have been absent from the reality of our present. Madhu Swaminathan as Shama and Minakshi Gupta as Shabana play the two central characters.

Tit For Tat - A tongue-in-cheek look at the predicament of a woman in the corporate world - a world where so often success and growth are defined, evaluated and regulated by traditional masculine values and standards. This piece explores both femininity and masculinity, and their changing expressions in today's modern world. Smriti Thapa as Shivani and Vaishali Bisht as the girl are the two characters in the play.

One - This monologue takes a hard look at hidden pain sometimes masked by a frenzy of activity. This piece explores the attempts of a divorced woman to bridge the gap of her 'alone-ness' as she is caught between her own traditional and modern outlooks. Sheila Naidu as Neelam portrays the only character.

Man Of My Dreams - A fresh, young monologue that presents the intense and innermost emotions of a teenage girl. The conflict between her need for social acceptance from her peers and her need to be recognised and loved for who she is, forms the core of this comic piece. This monologue features Akruti Shroff as Swati.

An Affair To Remember - A light feel-good piece that deals with romance, a word that evokes a myriad memories, emotions and bitter-sweet yearnings. Romance, as distant from the mundane run-of-the-mill daily routine as a thrilling first crush is from a dependable, predictable husband. But can a woman have the best of both? Sujata Patnaik and Anuj Gurware play the characters of Archana and Raunak respectively.

Write, Rite & Right
In today's world of infinite choices, sometimes the most important ones happen unseen, unheard and undocumented - within oneself. A 50-minute contemporary play, Write Rite & Right is a play about Prerna, a writer.

Frozen in the stranglehold of writer's block, Prerna attempts to choose her path along with the many parts of herself who emerge as characters, each one eager to be the one who will dominate her choices & actions. Who will emerge the victor? Sharmila, Prerna's Superego, formed and nurtured on social mores and parental programming? Or Jagruti, Prerna's Ego, who's ready to take action and change the world? Or else Chetan, Prerna's Id, who is really just looking to have a good time? Or did Freud just oversimplify? Are there still many more parts of the complex creature called 'woman'? Perhaps they are all just waiting to step out of the wings and have their moment of expression in the spotlight...

Vaishali Bisht as Prerna, Madhu Swaminathan as Sharmila, Smriti Thapa as Jagriti, Faraz Khan as Chetan, Anuj Gurware as Vikas, Sheila Naidu as the mother, Minakshi Gupta as Chhaya/artist and Prarthna Gupta as Prerna (child) are the characters of this play.

Entry is by invitations only. Please contact Vaishali Bisht at 2341-1862 for invitations and further details.
