Things seem to have hit rock-bottom for a dispassionate and infertile couple. And then they realise that it's not all that bad, since things get worse.
Rangadhara Theater will be presenting a full-length Marathi play, Shaniwar-Raviwar, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha, on 13th May, at 10:30am. The play is written by Prof. Satish Alekar and directed by Prof. Bhaskar Shewalkar. The duration of the play is 1 hour and 40 minutes, with an interval of 10 minutes.
Shaniwar-Raviwar is a social fantasy dealing with the impulsive emotions of a dispassionate and infertile couple. What happens when a third person enters their life forms the crux of the play.
Satish Alekar is the author of Marathi plays like Mahanirvan (1974), Micky Ani Memsahib (1973), Mahapoor - The Deluge (1975), Doosra Samana (1989), Begum Barve (1979) and Shaniwar Raviwar (1980), and is practicing theater in Maharashtra since 1971. He is one of the founder members of India's best-known theatre groups, Theater Academy, Pune, that he administered from 1973 to 1992.
Many of his plays have been translated and produced in several regional languages all over India. With his plays, he created a new idiom in Marathi theater through his unique use of black humor, language and absurdity to convey the oblique sense of reality. He also authored several short plays that have been extensively staged by experimental theater groups all over Maharashtra for the past 30 years.
