This Sunday, Shilparamam is presenting a Telugu social play titled Punadhi, as part of its weekend Telugu play festival. The play is written and directed by B P Prasad, and has B P Prasad, Subba Rao, Venkat Rao, Bhavani Prasad, T V Subba Rao, Surabhi Prabha and Baby Indu in the cast.
Punadhi means foundation, and the play aims to pass on the message that elders are the foundation for a family. The play is the story of a small family consisting of a working couple, an 8-year-old daughter and an old man (grandfather of the girl and father of the lady). It is a happy family satisfied with whatever they have.
The husband and wife work in different companies. At the wife's workplace, a man who happens to be the past lover of the lady, joins the company. Love starts to blossom again, and the couple's married life gets shattered. Just when the matter is about to go to court for a divorce, it is the old man who peacefully settles the issue and reunites the couple.
The play ends with the message that the elders of a family are like a roof to the family that shields it from difficulties, and are not a burden.
