Sri Chandrasekharendra Sangeeta Educational Society is presenting its 12th annual cultural festival and the 144th Aradhana of Satguru Thyagaraja from 16th to 20th February at Keyes Girls High School.
The 5-day cultural festival will feature fresh talent from city music colleges and also senior artistes O S Arun, Sanjay Subramaniam, Priya Sisters, Malladi Brothers and S Srinivasan. The charismatic Malladi Brothers will perform a Carnatic vocal duet on the 4th day of the festival at 6:30pm.
The Malladi Brothers, Sriram Prasad and Ravi Kumar, hail from a family of musicians. Their father Malladi Suri Babu is a distinguished vocalist and staff artiste of AIR, Vijayawada. The brothers had their initial training from their father, and thereafter, fine-tuned their skills from Sangeeta Kalanidhi Dr. Nedunuri Krishnamoorthy and Sangeeta Kalanidhi Dr. Sripada Pinakapani.
The brothers have established themselves as one of the leading pairs of vocal musicians, and have given performances in various towns across the country and the world.
Both brothers bagged national awards at All India Radio from 1989 to 1994 in classical, light classical and light music categories. They also received the best concert award for 1998 at Madras Music Academy , and the Srirangam Gopalarathnam Memorial Award in 1999.
Sri Chandrasekharendra Sangeeta Educational Society was founded in 2000 to impart and spread Carnatic vocal music to music-lovers of all ages. It was established by S Chandrasekhar, a renowned vocalist who has a diploma in Carnatic vocal music. He teaches about 50 students, both young and old. Every Sunday, he also teaches Annamacharya Keertanas from 3pm to 5pm, free of cost to anyone eager to learn. The society also organises various music concerts of local upcoming and established artistes, and renowned classical musicians from Chennai.
