Abhyankar had his vocation in life clear right from the age of 3. Well, that's several decades earlier than most of the world out here.
The 38th Pandit Motiram Pandit Maniram Sangeet Samaroh is being organized by the Department of Culture, together with Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj. It is a 3-day music festival, from 29th November to 1st December, and is being conducted at the Chowmahalla Palace. Performers during the festival include Bharatanatyam dancer Shirisha Shashank, sitarist Manju Mehta, flautist Master S Akash, tabla player Pt. Anindo Chatterjee, Saxophonist Kadiri Gopalnath, and vocalists Pt. Sanjeev Anhayankar, Ankita Joshi and Madhup Mudgal.
On the inaugural day, Hindustani vocalist Sanjeev Abhyankar will perform the 3rd and the last recital of the day, at 9:30pm.
Sanjeev belongs to the Mewati Gharana. He had his vocation in life clear right from the age of 3. Born in 1969, he started learning Hindustani classical music from the age of 8. He has been groomed by his mother Shobha Abhyankar, Pandit Pimpalkhare and Padma Vibhushan Pandit Jasraj.
Sanjeev rendered his first stage performance in Mumbai at the age of 11, and since then, has travelled extensively all over the country, performing at conferences and art circles. He has toured the USA, Canada, Australia, Europe, Seychelles and the Middle East, for his concerts. He has also rendered his voice for films, including Maachis, Nidaan, Sanshodhan, Godmother, Maqbool, Bhet and Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar.
About The Festival
In memory of his late father Pandit Motiram and his brother Pandit Maniram, Pandit Jasraj, in association with the Department of Culture, organizes an annual music festival in Hyderabad. It was being held at the Nizam College grounds, which was where his father and his brother taught music to several students. However, since 2009, the venue has been shifted to the Chowmahalla Palace. Started in 1972, this festival is on for the 38th year.
