After successfully making its debut last year, the Hyderabad Theatre Festival is now in its second outing. Titled the Hyderabad Theatre & Short-Film Festival, it has been scheduled for 19th to 25th July, at the Ravindra Bharathi auditorium. A total of 7 plays and 6 short films will be screened during the week-long festival.
The second day of the festival, the 20th of July, Arthur Miller's "The Crucible", directed by Natasha Chandra, will be staged at 7:30pm. The duration of the play is 90 minutes.
This parable about mass hysteria draws a chilling parallel between the Salem witch-hunt of 1692 and the McCarthyism which gripped America in the 1950s. The story of how the small community of Salem is stirred into madness by superstition, paranoia and malice, culminating in a violent climax, is an attack on the evils of mindless persecution and the terrifying power of false accusations.
Samahaara is a non-profit cultural society based in Hyderabad. For the last 6 years, it has been making efforts at taking theatre to the young minds of Hyderabad. The members include young working professionals and students.

I really want to come and check out this play because, I've read the book, seen the movie and believe that the story context is very ChristianWesternAmerican. I want to see what a team of Cosmo-Indians are going to do with it. Very very interesting thinking about it.
