The Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, the Boyi Bheemanna Sahitya Peetham, the Sahitya Nidhi Academy and the Department of Culture are jointly organizing a drama festival, where several theater groups will take part. On the first day, that is on the 19th, a drama scripted by Boyi Bheemanna, Paleru, will be presented by Samatha Arts (Tenali) at Ravindra Bharathi. There will be several dramas on the subsequent days until the 24th, at the NTR Kalamandir in the Telugu University.
Paleru is about a poor dalit character Venkanna, who overcomes all odds and emerge as an IAS officer. The character fights his poverty and the atrocities of landlords, and ultimately emerge a winner. Around 25 artists will take part in the play. Nandi award winner Samatha Arts (Tenali) will present this play. This play has been staged over 100 times on stage.
There will be several cash awards and mementos given away to the best performers at the end of the festival. The best drama will get a cash award of Rs. 25,000, the 2nd prize is Rs. 15,000, and the 3rd is Rs. 10,000. Individual awards will be given to the best actor, best actress, best child artist, best villain, best music director, best director, and best stage designer.
