Booze. And now that we have your attention, here goes. This whole month, there's
a beer festival on at One Flight Down, the pub at The Residency. It's been on
here since 1998 (the festival, and in the month of October, that is), and One
Flight Down claims to be the first pub in Hyderabad to have this festival which
originally started in Germany (it happens there in the months of September and
October). Do you care?
Anyway, this is what matters. There's booze here. Plenty of it. The name wasn't
mis-spelt. If you belong to the fairer sex, things are actually better. You get
a free welcome drink that could be a mocktail/cocktail. (Actually they should
have that for the guys. Once the guys have that and feel a little easy in the
heads, purses will loosen, and lots will sell. Makes business sense. Somebody
please tell OFD that. We want, we want, free booze.) There are plenty of beer-based
cocktails, and there's a new improved menu this month. It's what they call a theme-based
month. An ambience will be created for the theme. There will also be games and
prizes to be won everyday. And they're all easy. "Nobody will go back empty-handed,"
we are told.
The theme is booze on weekdays. Isn't it all days, you ask? Sorry, we prefer not
to interfere in your personal affairs. Anyway, weekends are more promising. The
first weekend, they have the ICC Knock-Out Trophy as the theme. So the menu will
read like a glossary of cricket terms. The matches will be showing on a giant
screen. The games and prizes are focused on that. The theme for the second weekend
will be Down Under. So Australia and the Olympic Games are the theme. The games
and prizes are focused on that. The third weekend has Las Vegas as the theme.
So if you want to gamble, you know where to go. The games and prizes are... okay,
you know. And as for the fourth weekend, it's rock. Shangri-La is playing. The
games... ouch, okay, okay.
What the whole thing is all about, is still not very clear, but what matters is
that there's going to be lots of fun and games, lots of music and excitement,
lots of partying and jiving, lots of.... Okay, we give up. Lots of booze.
