The Hyderabad Film Club, in association with the Mexican Embassy in New Delhi and the Federation of Film Societies of India, is organising a Mexican Film Festival, from 16th to 18th August, at Sarathi Studios. A total of 5 films directed by Luis Bunuel will be screened during the 3-day film festival.
Illusion Travels By Street Car (La Ilusion Viaja En Tranvia), a 1954 Mexican film, is the second and the last film on the second day, that will be screened at 7:30pm. The film casts Lilia Prado as Lupita, Carlos Navarro as Juan Godinez 'Caireless', Fernando Soto as Tobias Hernandez 'Tarrajas', Agustin Isunza as Papa Pinillo, Miguel Manzano as Don Manuel, Guillermo Bravo Sosa as Braulio, and Jose Pidal as El Profesor.
When they find out that the No. 133 tram, where they have worked all their lives, is being retired from service, Caireles and Tarrajs get drunk and decide to steal it. During the night, they give service to an eclectic group of people, that includes a catrin, a couple of nuns, a teacher with his students, and a couple of rake workers.
The next morning, Caireles and Tarrajas try to take the tram back, but are faced with the obstinacy of Papa Pinillos, a retired inspector who is set on turning them in to the authorities.
Entry is free for everyone. Please contact Bh S S Prakash Reddy, Secretary of the Hyderabad Film Club, at 2373-0841/93910-20243 for further details.
