Melange Of Dance - Combination Of Kuchipudi And Western Contemporary Dances: Events in Hyderabad

REVIEW FOR MELANGE OF DANCE -...

The Alliance Francaise de Hyderabad, in association with the Department of Culture of Andhra Pradesh, and with the support of the French Embassy, is presenting Melange Of Dance, a combination of Kuchipudi and Western contemporary dances, on 7th July, at the Ravindra Bharathi auditorium.

Melange is a French word for an ensemble of various elements. The different elements here are Koka Vijayalakshmi, a professional Kuchipudi dancer from Hyderabad who has already given more than 500 performances including tours abroad; Sk. Haleem, a Kuchipudi dancer who developed a pertinent and graceful style inspired by Islamic and Telugu culture; and Maia Bouthors, a French contemporary dancer whose style is influenced by her 12-year-long ballet dance training.

This dance show is the fruit of an exploration of the thin line between the universality of dance and the diversity of Kuchipudi and Western contemporary dance. Their common passion for dance brought Vijaya, Haleem and Maia together to share their art, and this innovative experiment leads them to discover another way of thinking dance, new movements, and different styles.

For this fusion, music composer D S V Sastry has specially created original music, mixing the Western sound of violins and Indian ragas.
