Commemorating the 55th birth anniversary of Hasya Brahma Late Sri Jandhyala, eminent writer of over 500 scripts and director of over 42 films in Telugu, the Jandhyala Chitra Mandali and the Department of Culture are organizing a 3-day comedy festival at Ravindra Bharathi.
Starting his career very young as a playwright, J V D S Sastry, popularly known as Jandhyala, has the distinction of having enacted more than a hundred thousand performances in the last 30 yrs across the world. His popular works as a film-writer include Sankarabharanam, Saptapadi, Seetakokachilakalu, Sagarasangamam, Ananda Bhairavi, Adavi Ramudu and Vetagadu among others.
As a director, he churned out some classics like Nalugustambalu, Rendu Jella Seeta, Ahana Pellanta, Chantabbai, Sreevariki Prema Lekha, Redu Rella Arru, Padamati Sandhy Ragam and others. In the process he gave the film industry some extremely talented artists like Naresh, Bhramanandam, Velu, Veerabhadra Rao, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Dharmavarapu Subramanyam and E V V Satyanarayana.
Several noted comedians of Telugu film industry have come together to continue this annual festival with the staging of plays written by Sri Jandyala like Madyataragati Mandahasam enacted by Sai Kumar, AVS, Narra, Vinod, Anant, Gundu Hanumanth Rao, Tirupathi Parkas and Jayalalitha. Other events include a Hasya Kavi Sammelanam by Tanikella Bharini, Kaun Banega Hasyopathi, Satta Chupichu Basu.
The timings of the event are 1600-2100 on all days of the festival, and it is open to all.
