Iranian Film Festival: Events in Hyderabad

REVIEW FOR IRANIAN FILM FESTIVAL

The Hyderabad Film Club has excavated some Iranian reels for your viewing pleasure. The films that will be featured at this fest are:-

5th May, 2004:

Iranian Spread
This is a film written and directed by Kianoush Ayyari, and is the story of a counterfeit 10,000 Rial note being passed down from hand to hand in various parts of Iran. Iranian Spread is a peek into Iran's traditional and social life.

6th May, 2004:

Pari
Pari, is a student of literature and dramatic arts who undergoes a profound spiritual development when she reads about the spiritual progress of a mystic. This is her struggle for the search for the right path and to reach a higher stage in the spiritual domain.

7th May, 2004:

The Cyclist
Written and directed by Mohsen Makhmalbaf, this relates the story of an Afghani refugee, who is in dire need of money, and wagers to pedal a bicycle nonstop for a week to collect the money to treat his ailing wife.

Where Is The Friend's Home
Written and directed by Abbas Kiarostami this is the story of a little boy who sets off on an adventure to trace his friend.

8th May, 2004:

The Cow
This was the first Iranian film to gain international recognition. The Cow also tread on scandalous grounds and was banned for a year after its making. The Cow is set in an impoverished village, where owning a single cow is a source of extreme power. The movie deals with the basic truths, pride, tragedy and humility.

Sara
Sara is the doting wife of Hessam, who collects money for his medical treatment by lying to him. This is a story of pride and angst which revolve around extremely credible circumstances.

9th May, 2004:

The Pear Tree
The Pear Tree is the story of a middle-aged poet and writer, Mahmud, who travels to Bagh Damavand to write a book. Memories of his first love are rekindled here by a barren pear tree, and Mahmud is now privy to some secrets of the past.

Marriage Of The Blessed
Written and directed by Mohsen Makhmalbaf, this is the story of a young combatant, Haji, who is recovering from the impact of an explosion and in that time mulls over certain issues, realizing that his calling is the battlefield only.
