Ah Kun, a 10-year-old boy living in a village in 1965 Singapore, loses his sister's shoes. Devastated, he asks her not to tell this to their poverty-stricken parents. But how will she get to school without her shoes? Complications ensue until Ah Kun learns about a cross-country race for school boys where the third prize is a pair of new shoes.
Homerun is an adaptation of the Iranian film, Children of Heaven by Majid Majidi. Against a backdrop of economic hardship and political uncertainty, we see the purity and innocence of childhood and the power of love in the family.
