Hindustani Vocal By Suman Ghosh: Events in Hyderabad

REVIEW FOR HINDUSTANI VOCAL BY SUMAN...

Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj is organising the 37th Pandit Motiram Pandit Maniram Sangeet Samaroh, from 27th to 30th November, at the Chowmahalla Palace. This year, 10 artistes, including upcoming as well as senior performers, will perform during the 4-day festival. Hindustani vocalist Suman Ghosh will perform the 2nd recital on the 3rd day of the festival.

A senior disciple of Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj, Pandit Suman Ghosh is one among the present generation of the Mewati Gharana of Hindustani classical music. Winner of a number of prestigious awards and honors, Pandit Ghosh has performed all over India and many other countries of the world. He is also one of the few musicians in India who have combined performance with academics.

Pandit Ghosh began his journey in music at the tender age of 7 under the guidance of his mother Monika Ghosh. Later, he trained under maestros like Pandit Shrikant Bakre, Padmabhushan Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh, and finally, one of Indian music's living legends, Padma Vibhushan Pandit Jasraj, who transformed him into a full-fledged performing musician. In the year 2008, the Sangeet Martand (Pt. Jasraj) himself bestowed on him the title of Acharya Varishtha.

In memory of his late father Pandit Motiram, and his brother Pandit Maniram, Pandit Jasraj, in association with the Department of Culture, organizes an annual music festival in Hyderabad. It is usually held at the Nizam College grounds, which was where his father and his brother taught music to several students. The festival has been on for over 35 years.
