ITC Limited, in association with the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, is organising a Hindustani sitar recital by Purbayan Chatterjee, on 18th November, at Ravindra Bharati. Purbayan will be accompanied on the harmonium by Ananda Gopal Bandopadhyay.
Born in 1976, Purbayan Chatterjee began his musical tutelage at the age of 5 under his father Parthapratim Chatterjee. He is a disciple of two of the stalwarts of the Senia-Mahar Gharana - Pandit Nikhil Banerjee and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan - and so is the most aesthetically satisfying combination of the best facets of Dhrupad and Khayal.
He is a winner of the prestigious All India Radio Music competition in 1993. His maiden performance was at the Salt Lake Music Conference, Kolkata, and since then he has performed in major music conferences all over India and has travelled far and wide, featuring in prestigious international festivals in several parts of the world.
