Mayflower and Quiltshoe are best friends and spend all their time together. In a week, Mayflower is going to start school. Both the girls are in a state of turmoil. Who is going to do the household chores in the family when mother's little helper Mayflower won't be around? Who will play with Quiltshoe? Their father, a scientist, is only interested in the potato, his life-long object of study. Mayflower gets busy and family affairs get even more tangled. When school finally starts, Mayflower has learnt the most difficult lesson of her life: Adults won't learn anything if children are nice and behave themselves.
