It's a festive weekend for music-lovers of town - and if Campus Idols yesterday was the highlight for the youngsters, here's the crowning glory for ...everyone.
Fusion music lovers are in for a treat as Chaitanya Art Theatres, in collaboration with Sruthilaya Kendra and the Australian Art Orchestra, is organising a unique fusion music concert on 21st January at the Lalitha Kala Thoranam in Public Gardens. The concert will witness a fusion of Carnatic music and jazz, titled Into The Fire.
The concert will feature 10 Australian artistes from the Austrialian Art Orchestra, including specialists like Sandy Evans on the saxophone, Adrian Sherif on the trombone, Alister Spence on the keyboards synthesizer, Scot Tinkler on the trumpet, Carl Denhurst on the guitar, Steve Elphick on the double bass and Niko Schaube on the drums, and four Carnatic musicians from Sruthilaya Kendra, Guru Karaikudi R Mani on the mridangam, V Suresh on the ghatam, Bala Sai on the flute and Durga Prasad with gottu vadhyam. Rajeshwari Sainath's flawless nritta will enhance the ensemble.
Into the Fire marks the grand completion of a 10-year partnership between Sruthilaya Kendra and the Australian Art Orchestra. A CD will be released on 26th January at Mumbai, to commemorate the occasion. This concert has travelled to various national and international music festivals, receiving rave reviews at several venues such as the Melbourne International Festival, the South American Festival and the Sydney Opera House.
