The objective of this festival was to pay a fit tribute to a legendary musician. And there can be no fitter tribute even in theory than what is happening tonite.
The Indian Music Education Society (IMES) is organising the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal of Mumbai, on 20th and 21st January, at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan auditorium in King Koti.
The occasion also marks the punyatithi (death anniversary) of legendary Hindustani musician, academician, and the founder of IMES, Dr N K Karhade. A host of music and dance programs stud the event. Today, the second day, there is a Hindustani vocal recital by Aradhana Karhade Sastry.
Aradhana Karhade is none other than the daughter of Dr Karhade. She underwent training from her father, and is a talented artiste with a very good gharana, who sings with ease. She is a recognized artiste of the AIR, and has performed at most prestigious music sabhas and sangeet samarohs of the country, such as at the Andhra Music Academy, the Nada Bharathi Yuva Sangeet Sammelan 2002, and the Dharwad Music Festival.
Aradhana is married to Suhas Sastry, a talented tabla player. Currently, she is working as a music teacher in Pranav School and at Maharastra Mandali. She is a Diploma holder in Hindustani Vocal and a Sangeet Alankar from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya.
