The Uttaraa Centre For Performing Arts is organizing a flute recital titled "Venugana Rangapravesham", by Shaankari, on 14th July, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. Shaankari, a disciple of renowned flautist Jayaprada Ramamurthy, will be presenting some ragas, including Bhairavi, Mohanam, Vrindavan and Subhashini. She will be accompanied by Pavan on the violin, Ramachandran on the mridangam and Sreekanth on the kanjeera.
Prema Ramamurthy, a renowned vocalist, will light the lamp, to mark the occasion. The other guests for the evening are Premathi Nagamini, national teachers awardee; Dr. S Chakravarthy, President of SICA; Subramanium Sharma, a renowned violinist; and T G Shashidhar, branch manager of Indian Bank.
Shaankari is a senior disciple of Jayaprada Ramamurthy, having been with her for 8 years now, and has been with the institute since its inception. She is a multi-talented artiste with proficiency in the flute, Bharatanatyam and Carnatic vocal. She has performed at various venues across the country, and also in countries like Sri Lanka.
Jayaprada Ramamurthy is the daughter of well-known guru Prema Ramamurthy. She has received guidance from N S Srinivasan and Dr. N Ramani. She was the first female flautist to play the "Base Flute (Long Flute)" and the "Western Key Flute" using shift in octaves. She has toured the world over, and is the recipient of many prestigious awards. Established in 1999 by renowned Bharatanatyam dancer Geetha Ganesan and Ramamurthy, Uttaraa Centre For Performing Arts teaches Bharatanatyam and the flute, and has grown with every passing year.
