Yuvakalavahini is felicitating veteran movie songwriter Dr. Veturi Sundara Rama Murthy, to commemorate with the conferring of a doctorate upon him by Nagarjuna University, on 21st August, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha.
Dr. Murthy, popularly known as Veturi, was born on 29th January, 1936. He was introduced into the movies by legendary director K Vishwanath in the movie O Seetha Katha, and went on to pen more than 10,000 movie songs in hit films like Sankarabharanam, Sagara Sangamam, Adavi Ramudu, Intinti Ramayanam, Subhalekha, Anandabhairavi, Sitara, Swati, Anveshana, Tagore and Indra. He considers Thakita Thadimi and Nadavinodamu of Saagara Sangamam to be two of his best songs. He has won several awards like the National Award, the Filmfare Award and the Nandi Award.
On this occasion, a musical nite Alalu Kadilina Paata, Aaku Ralina Paate, on songs written by Dr. Veturi, will have performances by Venkat Rao, Amani, Subash and Gitanjali.
The chief guest for the occasion is Mandali Buddha Prasad, State Minister for Animal Husbandry, and the evening will be presided over by Dr. Parachuri Gopalakrishna, cine dialogues writer. The felicitation will be done by Saripally Kondala Rao, President of Dr. Akkineni Nageshwara Rao Nataka Kala Parishad.
The other guests for the evening are President of Suvarchala Charitable Trust C Ramakrishna, senior journalist Vasiraju Prakasam, lyricists Suddala Ashok Teja and Jonnavitthula, dialogue writer Akella, literary critic Dr. Dwana Sastry and programs director of Doordarshan Voleti Parvateesham.
