And if you believed our earlier claim that anybody can play badminton, here is the proof that we were wrong.
The Eenadu Group is organising the Eenadu State-Level Inter-College Shuttle Badminton Championships on 3rd and 4th February, at the Lal Bahadur Indoor Stadium. 20 players in the boys' and 19 in the girls' categories will lock their horns in this tournament, with competitions being held in both the singles and doubles.
N Srujan of Tirupati among the boys and I V Sravanthi of Krishna district among the girls are the top seeds. All the players in the competition have been selected on the basis of district-level championships held at 23 districts of the state on 23rd and 24th January.
All the matches will be played in the knock-out format, and the finals will be in the best-of-three system. The winners will be awarded championship shields and certificates. The prizes at stake for the winners are a TVS Star City bike for the men's singles winner, a TVS Scooty Pep Plus for the women's singles winner, and DVD players and other home appliances for the men's and women's doubles winners.
The championships will be inaugurated at 2:00pm on 3rd February by Dr N Nageshwar Rao, Managing Director of SAAP. K Durga Prasad, IG of Greyhounds, will be the chief guest. Doubles matches will be held immediately after the inauguration, and the singles are slated for 4th February.
